Lions Club Meeting Canceled
 The Bowie Lions Club Meeting for Monday February 8, 2010 has been canceled due to weather.

SHARE Distribution Day
  The Bowie Lions will have their monthly SHARE distribution day on Jan 23th. For information about the SHARE program contact the Bowie Lions or visit the SHARE web site.

Haitian Earthquake Relief
  On January 12th a an earthquake devastated Haiti. Lions around the world are responding to this disaster. The Lions Clubs International Foundation(LCIF) has designates a specific fund for this disaster. Visit the Lions relief efforts in Haiti web site for more details including photos and video on relief efforts and how to donate.

News, Events and Activities for 2009



SHARE Distribution Day
  The SHARE distrbution that was scheduled for December 19th at the Bowie Senior Center has been rescheduled for December 20th at the Bowie Lions Club due to the weather. Directions to the Bowie Lions Club can be found here.

Lions Christmas Tree Sale
  The Lions annual Christmas Tree sale will begin on November 29th. The Lions Christmas Tree lot is located at the corner or RT 450 and Belair Drive opposite the Bowie Library. A variety of tree types and sizes will be available for sale on weekdays from 1pm to 10pm and on weekends from 9am to 10pm.

District Governor Visit
 The Governor of Lions International District 22-C Gov. William "Bill" Thomas will make the annual governor's visit to the Bowie Lions Club on October 19.

Fall Blood Drive
  The Lions Fall Blood drive held in association with the Red Cross will be on November 14th. The blood drive will take place from 9am until 2pm at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 14900 Annapolis Road, Bowie. The Red Cross and Bowie Lions wish to thank everyone who contributes to this need. You are truly helping Lions and the Red Cross make a difference in our community.

Fall Book Sale
  The Lions annual fall book sale will be on November 28th, at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 14900 Annapolis Road in Bowie. Start your holiday shopping by shopping for hard and soft cover books of all types. Comic books, LP's, videos and CD's will also be available for sale. Proceeds this sale are used to help support local community projects. Used eyeglasses and hearing aids will also be collected.

Bowie Lions sponsor the LCOF mobile health unit
  The Bowie Lions will sponsor the LCOF mobile health unit at the Bowie-Crofton chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) meeting at
Bowie City Hall on October 17th. The LCOF mobile health unit is outreach program designed to provide free vision, glaucoma and hearing screenings, and distribute educational materials to communities it visits.

Bowie Lions Participate in Stream Clean
  The Bowie Lions will join with hundreds of other volunteers on October 17th for the 4th City of Bowie stream clean. Stream Clean Teams walk along specific streams
in the City of Bowie and pick up trash, litter and recylables. For more information about the stream clean program visit the City of Bowie's website.

Bowie Lions at the Bowie Farmer's Market
  The Bowie Lions will again be at the Bowie Farmer's Market for the last day of the farmer's market season. The Bowie Lions will have information about their rain barrel program and have barrels available for purchase. The Bowie Farmer's Market takes place on Sunday mornings through October 24 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Bowie High School parking lot.

  The Bowie Lions remembered a several deceased members through the Camp Merrick Patriots Circle and Garden program. Engraved bricks around the Camp Merrick flagpole will remember past president Lion Henry Van L. and past president Lion William K. and Lions Dan H. and Frank S.

  The Lions were awarded 2nd place for having the most patriotic float for a non-profit organization in the 2009 City of Bowie Memorial Day Parade.

Annual Charter Night
  The Bowie Lions will hold their 47th annual charter on June 2nd. Past District Governor Jordan Burick will install the new officers, board for the upcoming year. PDG Burick will also install the two newest members into the Bowie Lions Club.

Spring Blood Drive
  The Lions spring Blood drive held in association with the Red Cross will be held on June 13th. The blood drive will take place from 9am until 2pm at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 14900 Annapolis Road, Bowie. The Lions Blood drive helps meet the need of the almost 38,000 blood donations that are needed every day. The Red Cross and Bowie Lions wish to thank everyone who contributes to this need. You are truly helping Lions and the Red Cross make a difference in our community.

Bowie Lions Participate in Bowie's Memorial Day parade
  The Bowie Lions will participate in the annual Memorial Day parade sponsored by the City of Bowie. The Lions will join with family, friends and neighbors to honor the memory of those members of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

Bowie Lions Recognized
5/1/2009  The Bowie Lions were recognized today at the Bowie Senior Center Open House. The Lions were recognized for their funding and leadership to help establish the Bowie senior center bocce ball court horseshoe pit.

District 22 Convention
4/13/2009  The Bowie Lions and members of other Lions clubs in District 22 will gather in Dover Delaware May 18-20 for their Annual District Convention. The Bowie Lions will met with Lions from around the region, attend informative seminars and participate in the election of District Governors and Vice District Governors for the upcoming year.

Rain Barrel Workshop
4/13/2009  The Bowie Lions and the Planning Department the City of Bowie will co-host a Rain Barrel workshop on May 16th at Bowie City Hall.
Come and learn about storm water management and the Lions rain barrels program.

Springfest in Old Bowie
3/9/2009  The Lions will participate on in Springfest in Old Bowie on April 26th. Come join the Lions in celebrating all that Old Bowie has to offer and find out more about the Bowie Lions and their work in the greater Bowie community.

Backyard Habitat Invitational
3/9/2009  The Lions in association with Bowie Gardens for Wildlife Team and other organizations in the Bowie area will have information on the various
ways residents and businesses can encourage wildlife habitat. The Lions will have information on their rain barrel program and how to purchase one.

Camp Merrick Work Day
3/9/2009  The Bowie Lions and other Lions clubs of District 22c will participate in the annual work day at Camp Merrick on April 4th. The clean-up day helps prepare the camp for upcoming week-long residential camping experiences for children who are deaf, hard-of-hearing or visually impaired, and children with diabetes. 11/1/2008 The Lions annual fall White Cane Drive will be held on November 16th and 23rd, at Safeway in the Bowie Town Center. White Cane Days to help increase awareness of the use of the white canes and the laws governing its use.

Bowie Stream Clean-Up Day
10/20/2008 Members of the Bowie Lions Club participated in the second Bowie Stream Team Clean-up which was held on October 18, 2008, in conjunction with Gorgeous Prince George's Day, a Livable Communities Initiative.

Lions Mobile Health Unit to visit Bowie
10/1/2008 Members of the Bowie Lions Club will sponsor the District 22-C Mobile Health Unit at the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) meeting on October 18, 2008 to be held at the Bowie Senior Center.

Memorial Garden
6/14/2008 The Bowie Lions completed a memorial garden in honor of Lion Dale Baker. The garden along with a bronze plaque dedicating it to Dale is located on the banks of the Potomac River at Camp Merrick.
